BEHIND THE WORDS

BEHIND THE WORDS |

I’m a Mexican-Venezuelan writer whose work blends dark, surreal, and introspective elements with occasional bursts of humor and absurdity. My writing relies on allusions—from mythology and anatomy to art and history—and often inhabits spaces outside of the present, either in ambiguous timelines or historical settings. I explore a wide range of genres, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and screenplays, written in both Spanish and English.

Fascinated by surrealism, the gothic, psychological horror, and magical realism, I aim to create intensely personal and sensorially detailed narratives.

I graduated from NYU with a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing, but my journey began at 16 when I completed a memoir about my physical disability as part of my International Baccalaureate diploma. This experience sparked a lifelong passion for storytelling that has continued to flourish through my exploration of literature. I draw inspiration from Sylvia Plath, Julio Cortázar, and Lorrie Moore, as well as the Surrealist Movement and the Latin American Boom. Outside of writing, I find creative fuel in cinema, art, music, theatre, history, and even biology. I seek to create stories that weave the strange with the personal, the uncanny with the absurd.

Whether I’m crafting an eerie sense of suspense, a poem stained with blood, or experimenting with the power of language, my words aim to leave readers lingering inside themselves after that last full-stop.
